FINANCIAL EMPOWERMENT

At the Calgary Single Mothers Society, we support financial stability andindependence by helping individuals and families build practical money skills andaccess the benefits and resources they are entitled to.

Our financial empowerment work includes:

● Providing free basic tax filing through our Volunteer Tax Clinic in partnership with the CRA Community Volunteer Income Tax Program

● Offering financial literacy and money management workshops focused on budgeting, saving, credit awareness, and everyday financial decision-making

● Assisting individuals with screening and applications for eligible government benefits and credits

● Connecting participants to trusted community resources and financial supports

Our approach is accessible, culturally responsive, and community-centered, ensuringparticipants receive information in a supportive environment and, where possible, intheir preferred language.

Through financial empowerment, CSMS helps reduce financial stress, increase income security, and strengthen long-term economic well-being for single mothers, women, and families.

In addition, CSMS delivers a Money Management Workshop Series in English, Urdu, and Hindi, focusing on practical financial skills such as budgeting, saving, understanding credit, and planning for everyday expenses.

We also screen and assist individuals in applying for eligible government benefits and supports, helping reduce financial barriers and improve access to essential resources.

Through these services, CSMS works to build financial confidence, improve economic security, and empower families to make informed financial decisions.
